Meet Randy H.

Randy H. at Stand Down July, 2010Morson Livingston, Chaplain, Captain US Army (Ret) saw a man along US 19 Hwy, with long beard, long un-kept hair and shabby clothes he stopped him and asked “Are you a veteran Sir?” He replied “Yes Sir” very proudly, but I have no records. I was in Fort Benning and in Germany but I have nothing to show I was in the military. (Ret) Cpt Livingston immediately gave him his business card and directions of where the 2010 Stand-down will be hosted, inviting him to come and see him, so that he can get some help. This person is Randy H.

Randy H was a US Army solider and for the last 10 years he has been living on the streets of Pasco County and eating out of dumpsters or anything that he can get to eat.
His beard had grown long, he could not take care of himself and everyday was a real struggle for survival.

According to Randy because of St Judes Homeless Veterans Resource Center, he has immediately been able to get a haircut and shave, clean clothing, new shoes, hygiene kits, sleeping bag etc. He was also able to get his DD214, got enrolled for his entitlement benefits, applied for his Social Security card and now is on his way to getting a full time job at a scrap metal company. He has scheduled his medical appointments with the VA Healthcare system as well.Randy H. cleanshaven and with a haircut.

He is so excited and grateful to St Jude’s, because now he can be in contact with his estranged son, Christopher, who is on active duty US Army Afghanistan and feels that his life is back on track. St Judes is working on finding a permanent home for Randy H. Randy continues to say he is so “thankful to St Jude’s for giving him a chance again”
